California! The golden state. My, at the time, 5 month pregnant friend and I decided to take a trip over the summer to California. The plan was to fly to Los Angeles, rent a car, and drive up the sunny west coast. I look back now and I don’t really know how we fit everything in in such a short amount of time of five days. We hit it all – Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Malibu, Santa Barbara, San Francisco, Yosemite – and back down to Los Angeles.
*Side note: If you are under 25 and looking to rent a car, there is a hefty surcharge fyi. We learned that firsthand, but hey we needed a car!
It was funny starting in Southern California and seeing the difference between there and Northern California. SoCal felt like you just walked into an Urban Outfitters/Thrasher catalog (lets blade bruh). A lot of grunge in the city area and then more surfer vibe towards the coast and Santa Monica (surfs up, dude). Then we get to San Francisco a few days later and it’s more community oriented and Patagonia catalog. Cooler air, more wooded mountains. San Francisco was definitely my favorite, by far. Staying in the touristy parts you tend to avoid the overpopulated homeless situation. The Golden Gate Bridge, mountains, water, sea lions, the WEATHER, the tall and narrow homes, driving up hill – which was a little nerve-racking. So fun though. My friend Kayley, that joined me in this adventure, absolutely KILLED it being that she was 5 months pregnant. Especially hiking up Yosemite, by “Mist Falls” that was more like a hurricane and us walking up slippery stone steps and getting soaked. Everything was amazing. I am in love with California. Maybe not the government, but the weather, progressiveness, diversity, outdoors… obsessed. Can’t wait to visit again!
